A new investment in sustainable urban mobility will contribute to improving transport infrastructure, the urban environment, and living and working conditions in Ruse.
Ruse is continuing the modernisation of its public transport system with the planned delivery of eight new electric buses and the necessary charging infrastructure. The supply contract was signed on 16 September 2026 in Sofia during the Bulgarian–Czech Business Forum, held as part of the official visit of Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš to Bulgaria.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and Ruse Mayor Pencho Milkov, highlighting the importance of bilateral cooperation in sustainable transport and modern urban infrastructure.
The agreement was concluded between Municipal Transport Ruse EAD and Biofrog CZ EOOD, with the Czech company SOR Libchavy serving as the manufacturer of the vehicles. The contract covers the delivery of eight electric buses and eight slow-charging stations, with an implementation period of 360 calendar days.
Investment in Modern and Sustainable Urban Mobility
The new electric buses will complement the existing fleet of the municipal transport operator and expand its capacity to provide cleaner, more reliable and more comfortable public transport services.
The investment builds on previous cooperation with the Czech manufacturer SOR Libchavy, whose vehicles are already operating within Ruse's public transport network. To date, 20 electric buses and 15 trolleybuses have been delivered to the city, together with the necessary supporting infrastructure.
The development of sustainable urban mobility is important not only for residents' daily travel but also for Ruse's overall investment attractiveness. Accessible and efficient public transport supports workforce mobility, improves connections between residential areas, industrial sites and major employment centres, and contributes to better living and working conditions.
Part of a Broader Investment in Urban Infrastructure
The delivery is being implemented under project BG16FFPR003-1.001-0011, “Integrated Development of Boulevard Infrastructure and Urban Transport in Ruse”, funded through the Regional Development Programme 2021–2027.
The project brings together several interconnected investments aimed at improving the city's transport system and urban environment. In addition to the acquisition of new electric buses and charging stations, it includes the modernisation of public transport stops, the rehabilitation of Tutrakan Boulevard, and the installation of filtration systems designed to reduce fine particulate matter at busy intersections.
These measures form part of broader efforts to develop modern, sustainable and functional urban infrastructure that meets the needs of Ruse's residents, businesses and visitors.
International Partnerships and New Development Opportunities
The signing of the contract during the Bulgarian–Czech Business Forum highlights the role of international economic cooperation in delivering tangible infrastructure investments.
Cooperation with Czech companies in the field of electric public transport is also continuing through the project to establish a new sustainable bus service between Ruse and the Romanian city of Giurgiu.
Combining investments in urban mobility, cross-border connectivity and transport infrastructure is an important part of Ruse's development as an economic and industrial hub along the Danube.
Modernising public transport is an investment not only in a cleaner urban environment, but also in improved accessibility, quality of life and Ruse's competitiveness as a destination for business, investment and long-term development.
