By the end of February 2025, a new procedure titled "Encouraging the Filing and Protection of Industrial Property Rights by SMEs through Supporting the Activities of the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria" is expected to launch. The initiative has a budget of BGN 16.3 million and is part of the "Competitiveness and Innovation in Enterprises" 2021-2027 Program.

Оbjective of the Procedure

The primary goal of this procedure is to increase the number of applications and strengthen the protection of industrial property rights by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria will oversee the initiative, with part of the funding directed towards developing the information infrastructure, expanding the range of services offered, and improving business access to these services.

Financial support will cover costs related to:

• Consulting services for preparing and submitting applications for patents, utility models, trademarks, and industrial designs;
• Maintenance fees for the protection of industrial property rights;
• Application fees for utility model registrations; 
• Costs associated with legal and technical expertise.

Companies will be able to submit applications through the Information System for Management and Monitoring of EU Funds in Bulgaria (ISUN 2020). The official announcement for the procedure is expected by the end of February 2025.
